Every year since 1997, the Loyola Blakefield Swim/Dive team organizes a 100 Mile Swim to benefit a local charity or cause. Many students, alumni and faculty join in this marathon swim. This year, the swim was dedicated to Loyola’s new Brian Connor Philipp Scholarship, which is named in memory of the recently-deceased Brian Philipp, husband of Mrs. Amy Philipp, a cherished member of the Loyola Blakefield's Religion Department.

The swimmers began Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. and completed the 100 miles Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m., in a time of 27:30:04. Students also organized a benefit dodgeball tournament on Friday in the gym next to the pool. As of right now, the swim team has raised over $9,000 towards the Brian Phillips Memorial Scholarship, with more donations coming in over Christmas break.

Anyone who wants to make a contribution to the Scholarship fund from now until Dec. 31, can do so by writing a check payable to Loyola Blakefield and sent to Coach Keith Schertle, Loyola Blakefield, 500 Chestnut Avenue, Towson, MD 21204.
