Yesterday, Loyola teachers Chris Cucuzzella, Ryan Bromwell, Laurie Thompson, Sally Waller, Tim Bersin, Kelly Breschi and Jane Donovan accompanied 12 Loyola students on a ten mile Appalachian Trail hike from Gathland State Park to Harper’s Ferry. Before the hike, the students learned about the history of the Appalachian Trail, which is the oldest long distance hiking trail in America.
The first six miles of the hike followed the rolling wooded trail on the top of South Mountain. The group stopped for lunch at the scenic Weaverton Cliffs which overlooked the Potomac River. After the descent from Weaverton, the Dons walked the last flat section which coincides with the C and O Canal Towpath. Ice cream in Harper’s Ferry was a great finish to the day.
