BLAKEFIELD PLAYERS ATTEND CAPPIES GALA & ANNOUNCE 2016-17 SHOW LINEUP

It has been a busy few days for the Blakefield Players. Read more about their recent accomplishments and upcoming events below:

2016 Cappies Gala
The Critics and Awards Program (Cappies) Gala was held May 22 at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore. This year, the Blakefield Players had seven nominations for their production of Hairspray. The list of nominees is below (with winners in bold):

Best Female Dancer – Sarah Flynn (sister of Tommy ’16)
Best Male Dancer – Jay Jordan ‘17
Best Comic Actor – Sam Commodari ‘16
Best Female Vocalist –Rae’l Ba
Best Male Vocalist – Mark Sucoloski ‘18
Best Supporting Actress – Morgan Dryer
Best Lead Actor – Peter Pferdeort ‘16

Other highlights from the night included junior Luke Scaletta as an awards presenter and Loyola students performed the final song of the evening, “I Know Where I’ve Been," from Hairspray.

2016-17 Blakefield Players Co-Presidents Named
Casey Piparo ’17 and Luke Scaletta ’17 were named the Blakefield Players' Co-Presidents for the 2016-17 school year.

Talent Tour 2016
Talent Tour '16 kicks off May 24 in the Mary G. Creaghan Library at 7 p.m.  Admission is by donation and proceeds benefit Loyola's summer service trips.

Loyola Alumni Theatre
There will be a new theatre program this summer at Loyola completely made up of alumni. The LATER Acting Company (Loyola Alumni Theatre) will present its inaugural production, Art, a comedy by Yasmina Reza. Lance Baldwin ’87, Bernd Linhart ’92, and Joe Miller ’08 will perform the weekends of June 17, 18, 24, 25, and July 8, 9, 15, 16 in the library. The show features a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres by An Poitin Stil. Tickets are $25 and available online at loyolablakefield.org/later.

2016-17 Show Lineup
The Blakefield Players have announced the following lineup for the 2016-17 school year, which will feature two plays and a musical:

To Kill a Mockingbird
Oct 21–29, 2016
Play by Christopher Sergel. Based on the novel by Harper Lee.

Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
March 10–19, 2017
Book by William Hauptmann. Music and Lyrics by Roger Miller. Based on the novel by Mark Twain.

The War of the Worlds
May 11–14, 2017
Play by Howard E. Koch. Based on the novel by H.G. Wells. Originally produced by Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre on the Air on CBS Radio.
